Old New Zealand

...Maori...

The aboriginal inhabitants of New Zealand are the Maori, whom arrived on the islands around 1000 years ago. They are an austronesian people most closely related to Cook Islanders and other peoples of Eastern Polynesia. The term "Maori" literally translates to "ordinary people" distinguishing them from the Europeans (pakeha) and other races that would arrive subsequently.
