Tunnel Beach

In the 1870s workmen employed by John Cargill, a son of Captain William Cargill, excavated a tunnel down to a secluded beach so that the Cargill families could bathe in privacy. The short walk down from the road affords some stunning views of the Otago Coast.

Location: Dunedin, from the car park at the seaward end of Green Island Bush Road, off Blackhead Road. Public transport is available.
